Entec and Webaspx to Model Waste and Recycling Collections across Nottinghamshire

The Nottinghamshire Waste Collection Authorities have comissioned Entec and Webaspx to carry out a logistics modelling study of waste and recycling services across the whole of Nottinghamshire.  The study, which is being funded by the East Midlands Centre of Excellence, aims to identify potential savings in improved refuse and recycling collection round design, and apply the same principles to trade waste and medical waste collections across the county. 

  Entec, with Webaspx as sub-contractors, were appointed  through the OGC buying solutions Environmental Advice, Support and Delivery framework, which provides multi-disciplinary professional and technical services across the public sector.

 Current waste collection services within Nottinghamshire are structured within the boundaries of the seven district and borough councils, and Nottingham City Council as a unitary authority. The study will explore the potential benefits of cross-border (joint) working in order to deliver Gershon efficiences.  

 The study will be delivered in three phases.  Phase 1 will consider opportunities within each of the individual authorities to improve round design and associated crew/vehicle deployment.  Phase 2 will look at local partnerships with authorities working in alliance with their neighbours and the final phase will take a holistic view of the authorities working together as a single entity, resulting in the design and reporting of an integrated set of collection rounds.

 Gedling Borough Council Project Manager, David Parton said “Entec and Webaspx are well placed to carry out this work, having pioneered the development of an innovative waste logistics modelling service.  The two organisations have worked with a large number of Waste Collection Authorities (WCAs) and their contractors on round design projects and have developed protocols to deal with differing levels of data availability and accuracy, supported by leading edge tools to support the data capture and modelling process.”
