Brentwood Borough Council chooses EasyRoute to optimise waste collection

Brentwood Borough Council has selected Webaspx, a leading supplier of digital waste management solutions, to provide their replacement waste collection route optimisation software solution.

Using the EasyRoute software, and with support from Webaspx, Brentwood will be able to redesign their waste collection and recycling services to increase the efficiency of their routes and make better use of their available resources.

Following the introduction last autumn of their new recycling service for paper and cardboard, and cans and plastic, where they replaced single-use, co-mingled plastic sacks with two reusable bags, Brentwood has seen contamination levels fall from circa 10% to 2%, which has ensured more material is sent to the processors for recycling and has helped the council generate more income.

Building on this success, the council is now looking to increasing the efficiency of their rounds and adapt to changing demands post lockdown.

Created specifically for waste collection and street cleansing, EasyRoute is the most widely used municipal route optimisation software in the UK. It uses advanced optimisation algorithms to help service managers and planners design more efficient and environmentally-friendly rounds by reducing the number of vehicles needed and reducing the miles they travel.

Darren Laver, Operations Manager at Brentwood Borough Council said: “Our new recycling scheme is proving hugely successful. We now want to build on this and continue to make our services more efficient for our residents and customers.”
